That of Carlitos Samenfeld is a common story in the clubs in the interior, where sometimes you have to do everything by heart and out of love for «his» team from the «people». Carlos Sebastián Samenfelf, was born in Rivera on January 14, 1947, the son of German Jews who came from Europe after the persecution of the Nazi regime in 1937 to settle in these lands, precisely in the Schtarkmet Colony, whose name in honor of Mr. Isaac Schtarkmet who was Director of JCA (Jewish Colonization Association) from 1913 to 1938, a fourth century, always sharing the direction with Veneziani and later with Eusebio Lapin.

The colony located 35 km from Rivera and 15 km from Delfín Huergo. Schtarkmet was populated by 14 families, all of these settled through the action of the colonizing entity J.C. A. founded by Baron Mauricio Hirsch, who was a wealthy Jewish businessman.

Carlos’s family consisted of his father Ewald Samenfeld, his mother Lisa Glaser and his brother Mario. In November 1979 he married Sara Beatriz Mirkin, then his two children, Martin and Melina, and later his 2 grandchildren would come into their lives.

Carlos tells us that he completed his primary studies at School No. 23 in Colonia Philipson. After finishing elementary school, he joined Rivera’s Agrarian School No. 1. It should be noted that while he was studying, the first three years he went to the fields on weekends to help his parents in the dairy. Playing tricks on life, Carlos tells us that, just as great professionals came out of the Agrarian School, they were also great soccer players who participated in Club Deportivo Rivera and Independiente.

After finishing his studies in Rivera, he went to Coronel Vidal where he studied 4th and 5th year, thus achieving the Agrarian Baccalaureate. Due to his roots in the countryside, he chose to study Agronomy at the University of La Plata, where he studied for 2 years that were interrupted by the obligation to do Military Service for 14 months in Río Gallegos. This event interrupted his career as a student and after taking an entrance exam in the city of Bs As, he was appointed to Banco Provincia, Rivera branch on June 2, 1971.

Once settled in Rivera, he ventured into the world of sports and his favorite club was Club Deportivo Rivera, at that time being its president Alejandro Felsinger.

In his beginnings he started as a player until he was invited to the Assembly and they elected him President of the C.D.R., in this way he was incorporated “unintentionally wanting” as the saying goes in the Club of his loves. He was player after President, player and coach at the same time. In this way he established himself in the institution.

Carlos tells us: “My idols in local football were Zenón Sequeira, Eduardo Sequeira and Eulogio Periga. Regarding soccer for the red team, I can say that we joined the Carhuense League, in which we participated and we had a great soccer level with very good players. Within the team, my teammates were Beto Anhorn, Horacio Bargar, Eduardo Sequeira, Moreno, Néstor Tejedor, the brothers Hugo and Horacio Hutt, Tito Fernández and Catuio Morales, among others. We also have reinforcements in the squad with two national idols Ángel Clemente Rojas and Pinino Oscar Más».

Samenfeld recalls: «I don’t want to forget those who accompanied me while I was on the Club’s committee, Constantino Regalado, Ricardo Eleno, Diego Camara, Héctor Regalado, Omar Schumacher, José Caricato, Néstor Tejedor and so many others that I don’t remember and who I apologize for not naming them, who have actively collaborated in the principles to raise the walls of the CDR room».

Samenfeld was president, treasurer and secretary of Deportivo, «In total 12 consecutive years. Currently I am not linked to Depo; Seeing the empty field makes me sad even though there is currently a very nice and well-kept property, ”he says.

Among so many figures and people who passed through the club, Carlos highlights two unforgettable characters from the CDR, «Eulogio Periga, a Depo player for many years, who was always a figure in all the teams that he had to participate in and Nemecio Balkar, masseur, a great person very identified with the club since the Depo was his second home, ”he evokes.

About his management, Carlos assures, that “with few resources they managed to make the Club grow and at present he sees an institution in conditions of growth for the activities of Rivera’s youth.”

Samenfeld always had an active life within the Riverense community; He was a member of the cooperative agrarian youth dependent on the Granjeros Unidos cooperative, organizing the Festival of Wheat and Sunflower, with the election of queen in all the festivals, participating in Carlos Casares and Tres Arroyos. In addition, he had the satisfaction of being able to participate in the theater and direct together with Juan José Gavinoser the play “Tierra del Destino” with the group called Horizonte, who participated in the celebrations for the 50th Anniversary of the Cooperativa Granjeros Unidos in 1972, He also participated in other plays as an actor and director.

Carlos is still active, he works and together with Beba, they take advantage of their free time traveling and sharing life with family and friends.
